The 360° Expert – Excellence Across the Built Environment

Exceptional properties and projects require an advisor who understands the cross-roads of ideas, architecture, art, engineering, building, budgets, operations, and use. Our 360° expertise forged from decades of unsurpassed proficiency with the built-environment offers a perspective that most consultants have not experienced. We see what others might not consider, having lived every phase of the process. Our unique approach includes:

Executive Strategy and Long-Term Performance

Great projects not only look good on day one; they perform for decades. Rogers has applied his lens for decades as the owner representative that led The J. Paul Getty Trust facilities, real estate, and projects. He oversaw the world-renowned architecture and developed best-in-class operational standards and connects that knowledge to your project.

Stewardship and Design Leadership

Design is a marathon, not a sprint. Using his background as both an owner and architect, Rogers manages consultants and the creative and project processes from this salient perspective. He monitors that aesthetics, goals and objectives stay true to your vision while keeping technical details grounded and on track.

Construction Grit

Having served as an owner and a general contractor, Rogers’ pragmatic knowledge monitors constructability, budget, and timelines. Great ideas are one thing but how they are executed by a qualified general contractor and subcontractors is an entirely different matter. Cost and reality shape decisions; we help you get things done on time and on budget by vetting your team. Our comprehensive oversight allows us to identify risks, obstacles, and opportunities. We don’t just consult – we are uniquely positioned to support your vision. We do this by advocating for you from the first sketch to the final walk through. Our clients share a commitment to excellence without compromise and recognize that successful projects are expertly led from concept to occupancy.

Advocacy Specialist

As your Vision Partner, Michael Rogers Now provides specialized advocacy for three critical areas where projects often fall short.

Identity Stewardship

R BrandSignificant properties tell a story. We help owners and institutions define and align their identity with the built environment. By ensuring that design choices and operational standards mesh with your identity and mission, we transform the physical built environment into recognized legacies. We serve as the storyteller of your project’s narrative from the “blue sky” phase to completion and beyond.

Resilience and Property Hardening

Protecting

Protecting a legacy property requires more than aesthetic design. It takes a defensive-in-depth approach to environmental threats. Drawing on decades of experience successfully protecting the world-renowned Getty campuses, Rogers is an expert in hardening properties against wildfire, climate change, security threats, and community change. From building systems to site-specific emergency and security protocols, we ensure your assets are thoughtfully planned for the challenges of the man-made and natural environment.

Art and Collections Integration

Salon

For world-class estates, properties and cultural institutions, the site and buildings are the culmination of your story and the vessel for the collection. We provide oversight within the complex crossroads of architecture, building, art collections, and use. This includes environmental controls, lighting requirements, and security integration necessary to house high-value collections without compromising the project’s goals and objectives.

“I turned to my long-time associate for help. After our dental practice was lost to arson, Michael stepped in to guide us through the aftermath. Michael’s calm approach turned a crisis into an opportunity. He helped us navigate the rebuilding process resulting in a beautiful and contemporary new building.”

Medical Professionals, San Luis Obispo, CA

“I have known Michael for a long time and have been an active collector of early California plein air painters for decades, such as Thomas Hill and Edgar Payne. When I decided to share my collection through a Southern California exhibition, Michael was instrumental in coaching both me and the museum team. He provided pragmatic guidance on everything from modifying the gallery and lighting to security. Beyond the logistics, he helped us understand the vital role of the catalogue in shaping both the exhibition’s success and my personal legacy. Working with Michael Rogers is truly a treat.”

Collector, Montecito, CA

“Before opening my own design practice in 2012, I served as the Director of Interior Architecture at Richard Meier and Partners in Los Angeles for twenty-four years. We completed and opened the Getty Center in 1997. Michael joined the Getty in 2000 to manage the complex for the Trust. We worked together on many fascinating projects as the Getty Center program continued to evolve. I found Michael to always be well informed, pro-active, and decisive. The ultimate steward for Getty properties; he was always engaging with those who were as motivated as he was to craft inventive, lasting, and integral solutions. I am so pleased our excellent working relationship turned into a lifetime friendship. We collaborate on matters to this day.”

Getty Stewardship Legacy

For 25 years Rogers served as the Director of Facilities for the J. Paul Getty Trust, the world’s largest cultural and philanthropic organization dedicated to the visual arts. Managing a multi-billion-dollar real estate portfolio encompassing over eight hundred acres and 2.5-million square feet, he provided executive leadership for two of the most iconic campuses in the world: Getty Center and Getty Villa. Among his accomplishments are:

World-Class Operations

Rogers recruited, built, and led a team of five hundred staff and contractors, overseeing everything from world-renown properties, projects, engineering, gardens, and support services to high-profile events and annual visitor ship of 2.5 million guests. Under his leadership Getty “shined every day.”

Real Estate, Planning and Projects

Rogers directed real estate acquisitions, capital building programs and thousands of diverse projects ranging from major renovations, sustainability initiatives, modernization, all-electric central plant complex, art and archive collections, exhibition space, residences and the highly public projects like relocating of the I-405 freeway in West Los Angeles to accommodate mass-transit for Los Angeles.

Strategic and Long-Range Forecasting

To ensure the Getty’s mission of built-to-last, Rogers developed a visionary 50-year capital renewal plan and sophisticated billion-dollar financial model to predict property renewal needs decades into the future. He also created and implemented a 20-year space plan assessment and program.

Property Resilience and Crisis Management

Rogers is a leading expert on “property hardening” against catastrophic events. While at Getty, he created emergency protocols and resilience programs for hundreds of projects to harden Getty facilities from destructive events such as fire, earthquake, floods, and climate change. These same measures protected the Brentwood community and Getty Center during, and in the aftermath of the Getty Fire of 2019, which started off property. Rogers’ preventive measures set operational standards for protecting high-value assets at Getty and beyond. He is recognized worldwide for his efforts and protocols.
